Netflix Non-member Homepage Redesign

As part of the Netflix Pathways UX/UI bootcamp, my team and I were tasked to simulate the entire design process revolving around redesigning Netflix's non-member homepage.

​

I began creating a proto-persona to help identify possible user needs and pain points. We then took this to the real world by creating a research plan and talking to current and potential Netflix users in order to see how they interact with the current homepage and what they particularly liked or disliked. After speaking with real people, our team came to the conclusion that many of the people who view the non-member homepage feel frustrated because they do not know what they are signing up for and cannot easily find what content is available with a Netflix subscription. From this, I updated our proto-persona into a persona based on synthesized user data from testing.

Our team also conducted a competitor analysis in order to see what our non-member homepage may be lacking in comparison to other streaming sites and what it excels at that we should not remove from the homepage.

Based on our interviews and usability tests, we collaboratively brainstormed solutions on how we can improve the user's experience. I created sketches and low-fidelity digital wireframes that we compiled together to use as reference for our clickable prototype.

After several revisions, my team created a clickable prototype of the non-member homepage that now included a content carousel and search bar so users can check for specific content available on Netflix or simply browse genres and categories.

Some difficulties I faced were the realities of Netflix's style guide which created limits for how I could edit the page and creating a seamless design that provides information yet is not too overwhelming for users. Through this project I learned the value of having the input of real users and of other designers because many ideas can be fine-tuned or improved by combining ideas and listening to the thoughts of others. I also learned more time management skills as we had slightly under two weeks to complete this project in its entirety.

We completed the project by creating a slide deck and live presentation for instructional staff and Netflix mentors.
